How Does It Fare? Review: Koala Gear DJIN Wallet

DJIN Wallet is created by Koala Gear. It looks like one of those elegant wallet out there. It is also very compact. The wallet is designed to be minimalist. On the first look, it does look pretty cool and unique of its own. It flips open to access the stuff inside. To ensure that the wallet closes properly, magnet is used.

The wallet that I got is the leather version, with the rather small Koala Gear at the front side. No defects upon receiving it and it has that smell of freshness out of manufacturer! When it is flipped open, it can be seen that there is the shiny, clean metal card casing as big as the wallet itself. This casing can hold up to 10 cards. You can simply slide the cards in and out easily, which is really convenient. 2 months of use and the casing is still tight and still holding up. Although it is as big as the size of the wallet, there is another compartment beneath it which is intended for coins storage. You can also store your keys there. The compartment is really big thus you can definitely keep quite a lot of coins in there. Furthermore, when the casing is pulled up (smooth movement), it will reveal a secret stash. It is pretty small and only meant to store something as big as a ring, SIM card, SD card, or the smaller USB Flash Disk. This can come in handy in certain situation. For me, I can store my USB Flash Disk there and carry it every time with me.

The packaging itself looks really nice and premium. The wallet definitely fits in the hand and pocket. However, the overall build does not seem as sturdy. The metal casing is pretty thin and the wallet itself seems to be able to be deformed with brute force. The wallet can also deform when sit on with it being at the back pocket, overtime. You can also here the coins rattling as they are hitting the metal casing. However, personally I think that it is not that loud, but can definitely hear it. One thing that really concerns me is storing of cash. Technically speaking, you can fold your notes and insert them in-between the cards. However, my notes are made of plastic and thus cannot really fit in. You can also keep your cash notes in the coins compartment. However, my cash notes are a little bit bigger that they cannot fit in.

All in all, the received product is well build with no defection. The magnets are strong too and the leather wrapping is pretty neat. For those with paper notes, they will most likely fit in. Koala Gear did a pretty good job. Some improvements can be made for the next version: insulate the coins compartment to reduce the rattling noise, have some ways to put cash properly like using clip, and using sturdier metal casing like making it thicker.

That’s all for my DJIN wallet review! Thank you for reading.
